Notaries public are senior legal practitioners who prepare, attest, witness and certify original and copied legal documents for use overseas. To comply with foreign requirements, Australian documents sometimes need additional government legalisation before they can be used overseas. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) provides a number of legalisation services to help Australian documents meet the requirements of foreign governments.
Authentication Fee: A$81**
Payment must be received for services at the time of lodgement with a completed form. Either you or someone you nominate can lodge and collect on your behalf. Payment in Australia is by EFTPOS or credit card (Visa or MasterCard) only. Cash is not accepted in Australian Passport Offices.

Alternatively, legalisation requests can be lodged in person at Australian Passport Offices. Lodgement in person is by appointment only. You can make an appointment by phoning 1300 935 260.
Submit your documents to the Chinese embassy or consulates for legalisation.
1) Regular: 4-working day pickup $30 per document
2) Rush: second working day pickup: additional A$50 per document.
3) Express: third working day pickup: additional A$30 per document.
Be advised; if your documents are notarised in South Australia and authenticated in DFAT’s office in Sydney, they should be authenticated in the Chinese Consulate General in Adelaide but not the Consulate General in Sydney.
